(WXYZ) - Over the years, local photographer and photojournalist Linda Solomon got to know Elizabeth Taylor as she took the screen legend's picture many times at many different events.
Here she remembers her, in her own words:
I was stunned, and because certainly having had the opportunity to meet her, to photograph her and to get to know her has been so special.
I mean, she was just wonderful. A great humanitarian. The most exquisite beauty. I mean, when she walked special a room, wow. I mean she would take your breath away.
Through the years I have photographed her many times. In fact, she had selected one of my photos for her book,
"Elizabeth takes off" and, wow. I was so honored when I was called by her publicist to say she personally picked this photo to show how she looked at the time.
Some of the photos were taken at the launch of White Diamonds, were also taken, of course, at the Oscars. and also in Los Angeles when she was given an award with Burt Reynolds.
One was taken here at Hudson’s prior to becoming Macy’s. J. L Hudson had a wonderful event for Elizabeth Taylor and her fragrance, and that was taken at Oakland Mall.
I’m most proud of the photo where she received her honorary Oscar in 1993.
I asked her once. I said you can't walk past a magazine stand without seeing your face on the cover. And she looked and she said ‘Boring, isn't it?’ I said ‘Well not to me, but to you? She said ‘Yes.’ She said ‘I don't read those magazines.’
There is no question that she represented the golden era of Hollywood and I don’t know if we’ll ever see another one like her.
