Taylor Police mourn the loss of the second officer killed in the line of duty this year

TAYLOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - Taylor police are asking for the public's help following a hit and run accident on I-94. The victim was a Taylor police officer.

The hit and run happened around 9:00 Tuesday night on the westbound shoulder on I-94 near Monroe.

The officer was hit while helping another driver. The officer was taken to the hospital in serious condition.  The Taylor Police Department confirms he died from his injuries.

Police said the officer was providing assistance to a motorist whose vehicle had stalled when the officer and the idled car were struck by a white car described as a possible late 1990s or early 2000 model Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis or similar model.

The hit-and-run vehicle went west on I-94 and exited at U.S. 24, Telegraph Road.

Investigators said the vehicle will have heavy front-end damage and
possibly passenger-side damage.

The officers said the vehicle is believed to have damage to the passenger-side headlight, turn signal and windshield. The car also could have maroon paint that transferred from the stalled car to the hit-and-run vehicle upon impact.

The driver of the stalled vehicle was not injured.
