Battle Creek, Mich. (WXYZ) - Some are calling it an environmental nightmare. John Laforge was forced from his home by the thick black oil, “These pipelines are a mile down the road from me. They are south of me a mile, never thought in 100 years we would have this. “
The oil has spilled onto Laforge’s property, killing fish, coating wildlife and contaminating the water.
Crews are pumping the oil out of the creek on his land but he's ready to burst not knowing when his family will be back in their home. “They told me we would be put up in 30 days in a motel because these trucks will be running the next 25 to 30 days cleaning up all this oil that keeps coming off the banks. So my feeling is I don't think it's safe. I can't jeopardize my health let alone my families health.”
