More questions surround school administrator's spending

INKSTER, Mich. (WXYZ) - She was a leader of a local school administration that's already millions in debt, yet she used the Pontiac School District's credit card to run up hundreds of thousands of dollars in purchases, raising questions about what she bought.

Now Mischa Bashir is the Inkster Schools superintendent, and once again, her use of the district's credit card is raising eyebrows and concern.

The 7 Action News investigators have copies of Bashir’s credit card statement for the month of April which shows purchases from Edible Arraignments, Honey Baked Ham, Panera Bread, and other restaurants for hundreds of dollars. In addition there are also purchases from Amazon.com, Art Van and Kroger.

The total April bill? About $25,000.

“Why so much food,” one parent with two children in the district wanted to know.

In Pontiac, where less than two years of Bashirs credit card use showed over $293,000 in charges, much of it was charged from the same restaurants and stores.

Teachers there said they received box lunches and attended meetings at the Marriott Hotel in the districts south end. But they questioned why, with the district some $25 million in debt and working under a state approved deficit elimination plan.

Again, asked to explain the charges, Bashir chose not to discuss it. Some members of the Inkster school board are concerned but say, so far, they have not received an explanation.
