DETROIT (WXYZ) - No one mentioned Carmen Slowski's name in court, but they didn’t have to.
She was top of mind when the government flashed a list of checks issued by Kwame Kilpatrick; one of them was made out to the Grove Park Inn, a North Carolina resort where the then-mayor shared a romantic getaway with a woman who identified herself as Slowski.
As we first reported in 2008, documents obtained by 7 Action News show the then-mayor and the mystery woman enjoyed an hour-long massage together in the same room before relaxing in a two-person whirlpool bath. Included in the $504 luxury package were chocolate covered strawberries and champagne to wash it down.
A few hours earlier, Kilpatrick was alone for a deep-tissue massage billed at $264.
Why the fed’s are interested in the spa retreat isn’t clear, but their case focuses on how Kilpatrick received wads of cash, and how he spent it.
A call to Kilpatrick's lawyer was not returned.
