WXYZ (DETROIT) - The Wayne County Commission has passed a resolution demanding that Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy allow the audit into the failed jail project be released. Under the resolution, if Worthy won’t allow the Auditor General to release the report, then she must get a court order.
The Auditor General’s investigation into the $300 Million jail construction project has been a point of controversy since early August. Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano halted construction on the jail in June after learning the project was facing a $91 million projected budget overrun.
Under county ordinance, if the Auditor General suspects fraud, he is required to turn over his investigation to the prosecutor. Auditor General Willie Mayo says he just sent over his final draft of the audit last night. A spokeswoman for Worthy says they will need 30 days after receiving the final report to determine whether a redacted version of the audit could be released.
