DETROIT -  Wayne County Commissioners took another step towards preventing the County Executive from offering secret severance and retirement deals to his appointees without their approval.

The Commission’s Special Committee on Appointee Compensations met today and approved language for an ordinance that will be sent on to the full Commission for a public hearing before a vote.

If passed, the ordinance would make it a misdemeanor for the county to offer a benefit to an elected official, employee or contractor unless the benefit was offered to other employees or elected officials.

The 7 Action News Investigators broke the Turkia Mullin severance scandal, and we were the first to expose that 15 of Robert Ficano’s other appointees were in line to receive up to $850,000 in severance.
