(WXYZ) - Rick Snyder has won the Republican nomination for Governor.
The latest numbers show that he has a ten point lead over Congressman Peter Hoekstra.
Snyder, who ran under the slogan "One Tough Nerd" celebrated the victory by saying "We've got a new definition for a nerd now, don't we."
He also celebrated his victory as an underdog, saying "When we started a year ago we had no chance, but we rallied together as a team ... you got on board with a vision, a plan to reinvent Michigan."
Snyder also looked ahead, saying his victory was "a giant step forward to create a positive future for Michigan." He went on to say the Michigan was an "economic disaster" and that "we need to focus on jobs to make this a great place for young people."
