Student diagnosed with viral meningitis

Livonia, Mich. (WXYZ) - A student at Livonia's Stevenson High School is sick with viral meningitis.

Officials at the school say the case is confirmed, but there's no reason to be alarmed. An e-mail went out to parents Friday afternoon explaining that viral meningitis is a milder form of the disease and it usually gets better without treatment, unlike bacterial meningitis.

The sick student is being treated and is expected to make a full recovery.

School officials say custodians will do their routine cleaning of the building over the weekend, but students should remember to keep good hygiene.
