Detroit - The Detroit branch of the NAACP is behind in sending cash to the civil rights group's national office, a status
that has spoiled a well-known pastor's bid for a board seat.

The Rev. Wendell Anthony tells the Detroit Free Press that the Detroit branch owes $46,000. He blames it on the weak economy but
promises to settle the problem by the end of the year.

Anthony is president of the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He wanted to run
for a seat on the national board but was turned down.
