DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Mayor Dave Bing is responding to some unflattering comments made about the city from the mayor of Boston.
Mayor Thomas Menino told New York Times Magazine he'd like to visit Detroit and added he'd "blow up the place and start all over."
Mayor Bing calls it an unfortunate choice of words. He says "I would think the mayor of a city that recently experienced a deadly bombing attack would be more sensitive and not use the phrase "blow up."
A spokesperson for Menino says he's sorry people have taken offense and "blow the place" meant overhauling the broken systems that helped bring down Detroit.
