AUBURN HILLS (WXYZ) - When Kraig Johnson, 42, hadn't shown up for work in about a week, his coworkers notified Auburn Hills Police so officers could check on him at the house he shared with his ailing father.
After a few minutes of banging on the door, officers say Johnson answered and claimed everything was fine, but when they asked about his father, Johnson claimed he was unable to come to the door.
Police described Johnson as evasive. And officers soon learned that 70-year-old Kenneth Johnson couldn't come to the door because he was dead.
We're told Kenneth Johnson had been ill and died from natural causes. Police say the body remained in the home for at least a week after his death.
Kraig Johnson was apparently overwhelmed with caring for his father and failed to notify anyone of his death because he was embarrassed by the condition of the home and wondered if he provided proper care to his dad.
Investigators say the house on the 3800 block of N. Briarvale Road was filthy and moldy. City inspectors have deemed it uninhabitable.
An investigat ion is underway to determine if Kra ig Johnson will face any charges including possible neglect.
Kraig Johnson would only tell Action News that he's dealing with a bad s ituation and that his father had been sick .
Late Monday morning, a large dumpster was delivered to the house. Johnson has been ordered to clean up the house if he hopes to continue to live there.
