DETROIT (WXYZ) - The lawyer for Kwame Kilpatrick's former mistress and chief of staff, Christine Beatty, is disputing the characterization of money she received from Kilpatrick's civic fund.
On Monday, an attorney for Kilpatrick's co-defendant, Victor Mercado, described it as a soft landing for Beatty after she resigned in the text message scandal.
The lawyer wants to distance Mercado from Kilpatrick's inner-circle, saying he didn't get anything but his salary.
Beatty's attorney insists the civic fund money is nothing new and she earned it by helping to produce a pamphlet.
