Metro Detroiters take to the roads, skies for Thanksgiving holiday

When it comes to holiday travel, the later it gets the busier it gets; on the roads and at the airport. If you’re looking to beat the crowds, those who know say there’s one simple rule to follow; the earlier the better.

“I always travel in the morning on Thanksgiving so I never have to experience what happens in the afternoon.”

Peter bono is what you might call an experienced traveler.

“We decided to come 2 hours early. Usually we come about an hour and twenty or thirty minutes. This time we decided to give ourselves another 30 or 40 minutes and the lines aren't bad. ”

This year peter and his family of five are headed to Florida. To meet up with about a dozen family members. What could be better than that?

Carrie Hanshaw has an idea!

“Going on a cruise to the Bahamas with my entire family. There's 47 of us going!”

That’s quite the trip. How does one go about planing a trip for 47 people on the day before Thanksgiving? Who does that?

“My grandma. She actually is taking everyone. It's going to be a fun trip. ”

Carrie Hanshaw says as fun as it will be to visit the Bahamas, she's most thankful to be spending time with her family; the very reason people brave long lines and waits in airports across the county in the first place.
