(WXYZ) - A third person in Michigan has died from the West Nile virus, according to Michigan health officials.

Officials say an 84-year-old man from Texas who was living in Wayne County has died from the virus.

Earlier today, a 69-year-old man from Detroit was confirmed as the second West Nile victim in Michigan.

This comes as the CDC reports that there has been an alarming increase in West Nile cases across the country.

The Michigan Department of Community Health reports that there have been three deaths and 47 cases this season.

Last week, state health officials reported the first death in the state. An elderly woman in Washtenaw County passed away after being hospitalized for West Nile Virus.
