Lansing, Mich. (WXYZ) - Michigan State Police are sharing tips to keep children safe in an effort to promote Amber Alert Awareness Week.
The Amber Alert system connects law enforcement and the media when a child goes missing.
Citizens can opt to download the alert system app to their cell phones . The app sends users alerts with details about the missing child and suspect.

While these preventative measures work, the alert system has helped to find 320 children and "safely" return them to their homes.
