Michigan State University is raising room and board rates

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan State University says room and board rates will rise nearly 4 percent this fall for students who live on campus and select an unlimited meal plan.
The board of trustees approved the increase on Friday.
The basic rate will be $8,476 for freshman, transfer and returning students who live in residence halls and choose a meal plan providing access to 11 residential dining halls and 23 culinary retail locations. That's an increase of $322, or 3.95 percent, over last year's rate.
More than 14,000 students will live in Michigan State's residence halls in 2012 to 2013.
For the second year in a row, there will be no monthly rate increase for students living in Spartan Village, a university-run apartment complex.
