DETROIT(WXYZ) - An investigation is underway in the gulf coast as authorities work to find who is targeting dolphins and brutally attacking them.
Four dolphins have been found dead near the gulf coast within the past two weeks.
The bodies of the dolphins show gun shot wounds and they were also badly mutilated. One dolphin had its tail cut off and part of another dolphin's jaw was missing.
Experts say that whoever is responsible is taking advantage of dolphins' customary friendliness. Once the dolphins get close enough, they are attacked.
Gulf authorities have asked fisherman and other workers to report if they see anything suspicious.
The suspects face a fine of up to $100,000 dollars and a year in jail.
