DETROIT(WXYZ) - Spirit Airlines has announced a significant increase in baggage fees, starting November 6.

The airline is hitting the pockets of procrastinating travelers by charging $100 if they wait to pay for carry-on baggage until they arrive at the gate. That fee was formerly $45.

Carry-on bags paid for at booking will increase by $5 andĀ fees at the check-in counter will increase by $10.

Spirit is hoping that the rise in fees will make customers want to pay ahead of time. Spirit and Allegiant are the only airlines in the U.S. that charge for carry-on baggage.

The pockets of passengers with checked baggage will also feel feel a little lighter, Spirit is also raising those fees.

Last year, Spirit Airlines was fined by the Department of Transportation for deceptive pricing shows in advertisements and tweets. Earlier this year, the airline was also charged for failing to respond and keep track of complaints submitted by disabled passengers.
