(WXYZ) - Starting on June 6, you can fly direct between the Oakland County International Airport in Waterford Township and Chicago's Midway Airport. Lakeshore Express is selling tickets for the charter flights.
Jason Ribits is the company's director of sales and marketing.
"For people living in Oakland County, especially on the north end, with the problems in terms of getting to Detroit Metro Airport .. the time it takes, you might as well drive there at that point. Having an airport and a service that is much closer to where they live and work is actually of great need," says Ribits.
There will be flights Thursday through Sunday. Prices start at $109 each way, but the price goes up as seat availability goes down. Passengers are limited to one carry on and one checked bag of up to 35 pounds.
Ribits says drinks and snacks are free and passengers have to arrive at the airport just 30 minutes before takeoff.
"There's free baggage handling and first class leg room for each seat. There are no seat upgrades," he says.
The airline already offers direct flights from northern Michigan to Chicago.
Of course, there are more flights and options at Detroit Metro Airport, but a spokesman for that airport says
"Any growth in air travel for our region is good for everybody."
