(WXYZ) - OMG! Can u believe this? Teens are texting more than ever!
Text messaging is now the primary form of communication among teenagers, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center.
On average, 12 to 17 years old sent out 60 text messages a day in 2011. Two years earlier, that age group was responsible for texting friends and family 50 times a day.
According to the report, it's the girls who like to gossip the most. Older teen girls are responsible for sending out 100 texts on a daily basis. But, it's the boys who saw their texting frequency increase the most from 30 texts a day in 2009, to 50 texts in 2011.
Sixty-three percent of teens say they text everyday, while only 39 percent say they use their smartphones to make daily phone calls.
