(WXYZ) - Dylan James Dunlap, 19, is behind bars now, accused of a beating and burning his girlfriend's 23-month-old nephew a few months ago.
Police say Dunlap was babysitting for the child when it happened at an apartment complex in Northville.
Neighbors saw police and the ambulance at the apartments and then saw Dunlap being arrested on Monday.
On Wednesday, the property manager of the apartment talked to the mother when she brought the little boy home from the hospital.
According to police and prosecutors, Dunlap and his girlfriend, who is the sister of the child's mom, were watching the toddler while the mom worked.
The girlfriend told police she left for an hour and when she came back, the baby had bruises and burns.
Police say Dunlap hit the child several times and held a lighter to his chest, hands and wrist.
Dunlap is charged with torture.
