BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - An explosion and massive fire in the 700 block of Waddington in Bloomfield Township destroyed a vintage Lamborghini Friday.

Firefighters were called to the home on a report of a car on fire in the garage. Pictures from the scene show a destroyed 1974 Lamborghini in the garage.

A new owner had just closed on the home, but the former owners had yet to move out at the time of the fire. Both the garage and the first level have been destroyed. There is significant smoke damage to the second level.

Officials say the home's 51-year-old former owner was trying to start the car when an explosion rocked the garage. The flames quickly spread to the home. It's not yet known what triggered the explosion in the car.

The man was able to rescue both his mother and dog. They say they do have a place to stay tonight. The home's new owner would not comment.

Fire investigators are working to determine what triggered the explosion.
