The 2010 Census is right around the corner and for Michigan there has never been a more important count. Starting next month there will be a big push to determine the number of people living in America. It’s a huge effort mandated every 10 years by the U.S. Constitution.

A Census questionnaire will be mailed to your home in March. Filling it out is easy, but more importantly sending the form back is critical! There are 10 questions that will only take you a few minutes to answer. The Census doesn’t ask for information such as your social security number, your income level, even your citizenship and it is completely confidential!
The final count will decide the make up of the U.S. House of Representatives. If there is a significant undercount or population drop, it could force Michigan to lose at least one of its 15 seats. The Census will also determine if Michigan gets its fair share of $400 billion in federal funds. A lot of that revenue will be used to build schools, roads, and hospitals in our local communities.

Here’s the bottom line…the Census is about political power and federal funding! Michigan, with its current economic challenges, could benefit from both more than ever.

Your participation in the 2010 Census is critical and the future of our state is at stake. It’s in our hands…STAND UP AND BE COUNTED!
