Once again, the holiday season is upon us. The hustle, the bustle, it's a special time of year. There are many ways to celebrate the season. The agenda for many of us will include holiday shopping, attending parties, watching football bowl games, volunteering and of course, worshiping.

But however you celebrate, let's all be mindful of the challenges we face here in the metropolitan Detroit area and throughout the state. Although most of our people still have jobs, the economic downturn has resulted in far too many job losses. Many of the people out of work are in the unfamiliar position of needing a helping hand. At the same time, donations at many community service organizations are down dramatically.

That's why Channel 7 partnered with The Word Network at Thanksgiving and with Art Van Furniture this month to help fight hunger with our, "Together We Can" food drive. The need is great and there are many worthy charities that would appreciate your support.

Most of all during this holiday season, as you gather with family and friends, give thanks for the time you have together and the freedoms most of us cherish in this nation.

From our Channel 7 family to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
Broadcast: December 20 - 24, 2009
