Our editorial calling for a ban on text messaging while driving in Michigan triggered these responses. Leroy Brown writes:
"A cell phone is a good tool when used properly but we need laws in place to stop the abuse."
Another viewer writes:
"Texting while driving can kill people so I say there should be some good hard jail time."
-Dewzer
We also received this message:
"People who text while driving should be subject to a stiff fine, and a ticket with points."
-Gordy
Dave Kay sent us this comment:
"The bill should make it a primary offense to use a cell phone while driving unless it is a hands free phone."
We share your opinion but that's not currently before our legislature. However, the bill to make it a secondary offense just passed the Michigan Senate overwhelmingly. It now goes back to the House for amending and hopefully final passage with the Governor signing the bill into law.
That’s it for now. Thanks for writing and for watching.
