WXYZ - A couple months ago, we urged you to fill out your 2010 Census form by April 1st. Many of you did and we thank you for being so responsible. But there are many others, who for one reason or another, didn’t participate the first time around. This is especially true in Detroit. Here’s the good news, you have a second chance and we urge you to take advantage of it!
Between now and July 15th, a Census taker may ring your door bell. Please help the Census taker fill out the form which by law is completely confidential! Not even the President can access your information.
Getting an accurate count is imperative! At stake for Michigan is about $400 billion dollars in federal funds. To bring that figure closer to home, every Detroiter counted represents about $10,000 in funding for the city. That funding includes police officers, firefighters, hospitals, parks, roads, and much more. We want Detroit to get every dollar it deserves. We don’t want another city to benefit from our money!
Also at stake is our representation in Congress. Detroit could lose one or more of Michigan’s 15 seats. That would be devastating!
Participating in the 2010 Census is critically important. Please Stand Up for our city and be counted. We only get this opportunity once every 10 years!
