DETROIT (WXYZ) - Time is running out for you to cast your vote in today's election. You'll need to get to your polling place by 8:00 p.m. if you want to guarantee that your vote will count.
Polls close at 8:00 p.m. tonight, and as long as you are in line by the deadline you will be able to vote - no matter how long the line stretches.
Here's another thing to keep in mind. Not all of Michigan is actually in the same time zone. Metro Detroit and nearly all of the rest of the state operate on Eastern Time.
There are, however, four Michigan counties in the Central Time Zone. On the far western edge of Michigan's upper peninsula, each county that borders Wisconsin is one hour behind the rest of the state of Michigan. You may here some national news outlets saying that polls close at 9:00 p.m. in Michigan, but the they are actually referring to the four Michigan counties that are in a different time zone.
So, polls in Gogebic County, Iron County, Dickinson County and Menominee County will close at 8:00 p.m. Central Time, an hour later than the rest of Michigan.
Polls in our area close at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
No matter where you live in Michigan, if you haven't already located your polling place, you can use our tool at WXYZ.com/vote to find it on a map and to view a sample of your ballot.
