(WXYZ) - Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson is reminding state residents that they only have a few more days to register to vote in the November General Election.
In Michigan the deadline to register to vote on November 6 is Tuesday, October 9.
In order to register to vote, applicants must be a US citizen and they must be 18-years-old by Election Day. They must also be a resident of both Michigan and the city or township in which they want to vote.
If you need to register, you can do so by mail by filling out a form found online , by visiting the county, city or township clerk's office, or at any Secretary of State office.
Registered voters can apply to received an absentee ballot. However, you must meet one of the following criteria.
To receive an absentee ballot by mail you must submit an application by 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3. Absentee ballots can also be picked up anytime through 4:00 p.m .on Monday, November 5. However, anyone anyone asking for an absentee ballot on November 5 will be required to fill the ballot out in the clerk's office.
The Secretary of State is reminding voters that they will be asked to provide identification when they go to the polls on Election Day. They will be asked to provide a valid photo ID, such as a Michigan driver's license or identification card. Any of the following photo IDs will also be accepted, as long as they are current:
Any registered voter who does not possess an acceptable form of photo ID at the time they go to the polls can still vote. They will be required to sign a brief affidavit stating that they are not in possession of photo ID, after which they can fill out their ballot.
The polls will be open on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
