(WXYZ) - Mayor Dave Bing took time before heading to the Mackinac Policy Conference to attend the official groundbreaking for the new Public Safety Headquarters. The Mayor stresses that his priorities are public safety and securing the financial future for the city. Detroit is using $55 million in bond money to renovate the old MGM casino into the new headquarters that will house, police, fire, homeland security forces and a crime lab.
From the groundbreaking, the Mayor's attention shifts to the Mackinac Conference. Mr. Bing tells Action News that it is important to return with commitments of help from the state. Mayor Bing says "The city won't come back without some kind of financial support. Is that just dollars and cents? Is a check going to be written? Maybe not, but I think that there are a lot of things we can do in terms of leveraging this entire community, down here."
