(WXYZ) - Former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land has announced she is running for United States Senate.
Land made the announcement in the following email:
It is now official.
I have filed the paperwork to run for the United States Senate!
We will win by offering a positive vision for the future of America that moves our country towards an efficient and effective government.
We will launch this campaign the same way we did my first race for Secretary of State: by listening. I'm hitting the road over the next few months to spend time listening to you and others from all across this state. I think we deserve a lot better from Washington, don't you?
There is a great deal that Washington can learn from the things happening in states across the country. As Secretary of State, I focused on efficient and effective government. This meant greater transparency, and better service. And that's exactly what the people of Michigan got as we found ways to provide better services for less money.
Taxpayers got shorter lines, more advanced technology, and a real transformation in thinking from state government -- one that starts and ends with how we can best serve the customer.
Washington DC has many problems, and we're all rightly frustrated with the undermining of our individual liberties. We deserve better.
We're now in the middle of the longest stretch of 7.5% plus unemployment since 1948. Our country just isn't creating jobs the way it used to, and certainly not the way it needs to.
We can turn this country around by implementing efficient and effective government. We can cut government spending and needless regulations. We can repeal Obamacare and replace it with a free market solution. And we can reform the IRS so that no American worries about being unfairly targeted by their government. These actions will spur economic growth, lead to job creation across America, and put our country back on track to being one where our children and grandchildren are confident in their futures.
I'm ready for the challenge, and I think you are, too.
With your help, we're going to win. But we need to start this campaign off right. Please click here to make a donation and here to endorse our campaign.

PS: It is important that we show as much support as we can as quickly as possible, so please join the team!
Land is the latest big name to announce her campaign for the seat that US Senator Carl Levin will vacate when he retires in 2015.
