MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (WXYZ) - Some 1,500 southeast Michigan business and political leaders arrived under sunny skies on Mackinac today.

They packed light - with orders from the governor to get things done.

Governor Snyder told me that for a change the economic climate in Michigan is improving and it’s time to take advantage.

One way the Governor says to keep doing it is through innovation and entrepreneurship.

One man carrying that torch is Rick DeVos. He’s launched an innovative idea funding project called Start Garden

The same kind of idea has already worked for DeVos with the incredibly successful Art Prize.

Innovation is one of three simple ideas organizers are using to frame this year’s conference. The others are collaboration and expanding Michigan’s global reach.

By the way, a guy who knows something about global reach will be the center of attention tomorrow - Roger Penske, the man behind the Belle Isle Grand Prix.
