(WXYZ) - Pete Hoekstra has won the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate.
Hoekstra defeated three other candidates in the primary election race including Detroit attorney Clark Durant.
Speaking to a crowd of roughly 100 people at the Centerpoint Marriott in Pontiac, Hoekstra thanked his opponents for making his campaign stronger. The celebration will be short-lived, the focus is already shifting to the November general election as he faces Democrat Debbie Stabenow.
“We’re going to hold the president accountable, we’re going to hold the follower-in-chief, Debbie Stabenow, accountable because we can do better,” Hoekstra told supporters during his acceptance speech.
