(WXYZ) - Tonight could be exactly what Governor Mitt Romney needs to make him the front-runner in Michigan and many other voter rich states across the nation.
He will officially accept the Republican Party’s nomination for president and deliver the most important speech of his political career to date.
How Romney influences undecided voters will be crucial in a political race that is much too close to call.
In a new poll conducted by EPIC MRA and released first to WXYZ-TV and the Detroit Free Press, 49 percent of Michigan voters say they would vote to re-elect President Barack Obama if they had to vote right now.
Forty-six percent of the 1200 people surveyed in the automated statewide poll would cast their ballot for Governor Romney, 5 percent are still undecided.
In the U.S. Senate race between Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow and former West Michigan Congressman Pete Hoekstra, Stabenow would win 51 percent to 44 percent with 5 percent undecided, if voters had to decide that contest today.
The Epic MRA poll was conducted on August 28 and has a plus or minus margin of error of 2.6 percent. Thirty-nine percent of the people surveyed describe themselves as Democrats, 36 percent say they are Republicans.
