(WXYZ) - Cheering for Detroit’s professional sports teams is a great Michigan pastime. And when 600 statewide voters were recently polled by EPIC MRA for an exclusive WXYZ-TV/Detroit Free Press survey to determine which team would likely be next to win a national championship, there was one clear favorite.
Forty-three percent selected the red hot Red Wings, 25-percent said the ace pitching and slugfest Detroit Tigers would be next, 16-percent voted for the re-energized Detroit Lions, and only 2-percent favored the re-building Detroit Pistons.
The survey numbers may have come out differently if the complete poll had been conducted prior to the Tigers announcing they had acquired homerun hitter Prince Fielder.
The survey was done January 21- 25, 2012 and has a margin of error of plus/minus 4.0-percent.
