(WXYZ) - A company is recalling thousands of child safety locks for cabinets and toilets because they may not prevent children from gaining access.
Dorel Juvenile Group of Columbus, Ind. is recalling 183,000 Safety 1st Sure Fit toilet locks with model numbers 48003 and 48103 and 685,000 Safety 1st cabinet slide locks with model numbers 12013 and 12014.
The toilet locks were sold at Bed, Bath and Beyond, Burlington Coat Factory, Home Depot, Target and Walmart from January 2005 through April 2010 for between $8 and $20.
The cabinet locks were sold at the same stores from January 2000 through March 2009 for between $2 and $11.
Both locks were sold on Amazon.com through April 2012.
The company received hundreds of complaints about the locks not serving their purpose of preventing children from lifting up a toilet lid or gaining access to a cabinet.
