DETROIT (WXYZ) - Be sure to bring your appetite. Wednesday, American Coney Island is celebrating its 95th anniversary with 95 cent coneys.

Hot dogs rained from the sky in Dearborn Heights as the restaurant teamed up with channel 95.5 for a hot dog drop. The person who collected the most hot dogs was awarded $1,000 and a lifetime supply of coneys!

The coney dog has defined Downtown Detroit for decades. American Coney Island, located on the corner of Michigan Ave. and Lafayette, will offer 95 cent coneys from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The restaurant is home of Detroit's original coney, which is a combination of a hot dog, chili, onions and mustard.

American Coney Island was founded by Gust Keros in 1917. The restaurant remains in the Keros family with Grace Keros, the third generation and first woman owner of American Coney Island.
