DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Police say they have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a Vietnam War veteran.
Detroit Police say they have a male suspect in custody. His identity has not been released.
Police say 62-year-old John Villneff was killed late Wednesday while protecting his family.
Villneff's four grandchildren live in next door to him on the city's west side
Police say a group of young men stormed into that home, beat his 16-year-old grandson with a baseball bat, and tried to rob them.
A 12-year-old girl at the home managed to take pictures of the suspects as they committed their crime. She then ran from the home towards her grandfather’s home next door. The war veteran was then shot by one of the intruders while trying to protect his granddaughter.
