DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix is on track to return to the Motor City in 2012 after City Council approved a permit application on Tuesday.

Race organizers say their next step is to secure sponsors needed to make the return of Grand Prix to Detroit a reality.

The event chairman, Bud Denker, says a number of sponsors are interested in being a part of the Detroit Grand Prix beyond 2012.

Belle Isle will still remain open to visitors during the Grand Prix with the racing area blocked off for ticket holders.

The dates for the race are set for June 1 - 3,
