DETROIT (WXYZ) - With resumes in hand, thousands of people were lining up outside Wayne County Community College Downtown District. Congressmen John Conyers and Hansen Clarke hosted the Congressional Black Caucus ‘For the People’ job initiative Tuesday.
According to members of the Congressional Black Caucus, the national unemployment rate for African Americans is 16.9 percent. They say in Metro Detroit it hovers around 30 percent. The job fair was part of an initiative to shrink that number.
Lawmakers say they plan to take concerns to Washington D.C to search for ways to bring more opportunities to Michigan. The job fair ended at 5:00 p.m.
