DETROIT (WXYZ) - A federal judge has appointed two new attorneys to former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's legal team.
Judge Nancy Edmunds appointed the attorneys at the request of Kilpatrick's main attorney Jim Thomas. In July Thomas asked for technical support and secondary counsel as he defends Kilpatrick against 19 counts related to misuse of the Kilpatrick Civic Fund.
Joseph Niskar will now serve as secondary counsel and Michael Naughton will serve as counsel for technological support as Kilpatrick's federal tax and fraud case moves forward.
Since they are court appointed, both Niskar and Naughton's fees will be paid for by taxpayers.
