DETROIT (WXYZ) - Fire trucks surrounded the area of 1553 Woodward around midnight Sunday. From YouTube video, you could see fire crews working to put out a blaze on the 15th floor of the David Whitney Building.
The historical building has been under-going renovation and work was being done on that floor.
Sources told 7 Action News there was a little bit of trouble tackling the flames and smoke, because the high rise's stand pipe was disconnected and firefighters at first could not get any water to the area.
It is not clear, if there were any code violations at this point.
The fire was contained to that part of the building, before it was extinguished.
Neighbors are thankful the fire did not spread to several other nearby structures.
The blaze is under investigation.
