DETROIT (WXYZ) - A 10-year millage to help fund the Detroit Institute of Arts has passed in all three counties where it was on the ballot.

The millage narrowly passed in Macomb County, but passed with much greater margins in Oakland and Wayne counties.
People in those three counties will now be able to visit the museum for free because their tax payments will count as their admission.
The millage amounts to $20 a year for a home with a value of $200,000 for the next ten years.
The millage is expected to raise about $23 million a year.
Several watchdog groups lined up against the millage , suggesting that the DIA turn to its $100 million endowment instead.
Millage opponents also said those who actually use the DIA should've shouldered the bulk of funding, meaning visitors should pay higher admission fees.
They said the television commercials supporting the millage leading up to the election were a scare tactic.
