DETROIT (WXYZ) - A 8-year-old girl loses her life inside her own east side home early Sunday morning after police say she was stabbed once by her mother.

Sources tells us the 26-year-old mother in question committed the unthinkable act after fighting with her boyfriend.

She was arrested at the scene.

The horrific tragedy unfolded on the 2200 block of E. Larned around 2:30 a.m. Neighbors at the apartment complex tell Action News they heard screams that sounded like someone was being tortured.

As residents arrived at the little girl's apartment they saw her lifeless body on the floor. One neighbor says the girl's mother was kicking her daughter and hitting her in an effort to wake her up.

Police sources tell Action News the mother, who is now under arrest has four other sons, all of whom are younger than nine years old. They are now in protective custody.
