DETROIT (WXYZ) - The minute it went out, it became a cringe-worthy mess - an embarrassing email revealing personal details of some female officers’ bodies, including their weight and bra size.
Detroit police say it was accidently sent to a number of other officers. The information was needed to fit bullet proof vests.
“This was not done maliciously. It was clerical error,” says Assistant Chief James White. “It is not the practice of the police department to share sensitive information with other members of the organization - an isolated incident and embarrassing incident.”
Assistant chief White and Chief James Craig plan to meet with the female officers affected - though we’re told the commander who did this regrets the mistake.
We wanted to know – moving forward - what DPD plans to do to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
“We’re putting previsions in place to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” says White. “The commanders and the members will be encouraged that any information is vetted very closely.”
The incident is still under investigation – though the assistant chief says he doubts any discipline will come of it. They will be meeting with the unions this Thursday at Detroit police headquarters.
