DETROIT (WXYZ) - One of two Detroit Police officers shot in the line of duty has been released from the hospital Wednesday.
Sources tell 7 Action News an officer reportedly shot in the leg was released from Henry Ford Hospital Wednesday after a shoot-out Tuesday evening.
An additional officer was shot in the head and remains in critical condition.
We are being told that both are Detroit police officers who were working as part of an ATF task force Tuesday evening.
The shoot-out happened at Linwood and Hooker, near the area of Linwood and West Grand Boulevard.
Detroit Police told reporters at a news conference that the officers were following murder suspects connected to a homicide on March 28 when they were spotted.
A chase ensued, and the vehicle of the suspects was stopped at Linwood and Hooker. That's where police say one of the suspects opened fire, hitting both law enforcement officers. The officers returned fire and killed the suspect, according to police.
Police say the officers were rushed to Henry Ford Hospital and the other suspect was taken into custody.
Neighbors told 7 Action News they ran to their windows to see what was going on outside, describing it like a scene out of a movie.
“It sounded like a war,” a neighbor told 7 Action News.
The family of the suspect who was killed could be seen talking to police, visibly distraught.
Detroit Police along with the Michigan State Police and evidence technicians spent hours looking for evidence at the scene.
The Interim Detroit Police Chief Chester Logan spoke during the brief news conference around 8:30 p.m. Chief Logan described the incident that led up to the shooting. Mayor Dave Bing stood beside him, but did not speak. He stood there to offer support for the entire police department.
