DETROIT (WXYZ) - A 10-year-old boy taking out the trash was hit and killed by a driver on Detroit's east side. The driver kept going.

According to the boy's family, Christopher Sandoval was near the curb outside his home on the 16000-block of Bringard when the driver of a Red Dodge truck jumped the curb and hit him.

The driver had to stop after turning a corner because the trash bin the boy was carrying got stuck under his truck. After dislodging it police say he drove off.

It's believed he was headed to Harper Woods.

Officers say the driver in question is a white male with a mustache in his 30's or 40's. The family believes the truck had a plow attached to it - but police say they are not certain if that was the case.

The truck is believed to be an early 2000's red Dodge pick-up.
