(WXYZ) - The Detroit Police Department is teaming up with some of the city’s Catholic churches to host a gun buyback program.

It’s an effort to fight crime in the city of Detroit.

Today, you can turn in any unloaded weapons and receive cash. It’s a “no-questions-asked” program.

It runs from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. today at St. Cecilia Catholic Church on 10400 Stoepel Street. That’s near Livernois and Grand River.

Below are the guidelines provided by DPD:

  • Turn in unloaded weapons. (First come, first serve basis)
  • No questions will be asked.
  • Up to $50 will be paid for an operational weapon.
  • Up to $100 will be paid for two or more operational weapons.
  • Up to $100 may be paid for assault weapons (limit of $200).
  • Up to $25 will be paid for long guns.
  • Up to $25 will be paid for non-operational weapon.
  • Cash will be distributed at the church upon turn-in of weapons.

Detroit Police Department’s Commercial Auto Theft Unit will also offer free vehicle etching to deter theft. The vehicle owner must have the proper vehicle documentation including registration, title and/or certificate of insurance.
