DETROIT (WXYZ) - A Detroit Police Officer died Saturday after competing in the Bikes on the Bricks event in Flint.
The department say 49-year-old Rodney Jones was a 28-year veteran. Police say Jones helped train the next generation of "motor officers," and made a lot of friends along the way.
Jones was riding his motorcycle on South Saginaw Street when he stopped his bike and collapsed Saturday afternoon.
EMT's treated him at the scene and rushed him to Hurley Hospital where he died. A DPD spokesperson says he died from a medical condition.
Officer Jones is survived by his wife and children.
