CANTON, MICH (WXYZ) - Police say alcohol may have played a role in a crash involving a wrong-way driver Sunday morning in Canton.

It happened around 2:35 am  on Michigan Avenue.

Canton Police say their officers were in the middle of a traffic stop on Lilley Road when a 26-year-old Northville woman drove past them, turned left and started heading eastbound in the westbound lanes.

The officers tried to catch up with the woman, but not before she crashed, head-on, into a Chevrolet Impala.

Both drivers were seriously injured and were airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital.

A passenger in the Impala was also rushed to the hospital with less severe injuries.

Canton Police say the crash is still under investigation.
